Fully Enclosed Dining Shelter Added to Grounds at Sydenham School in Sydenham

Sydenham School in Sydenham, Greater London wanted an all-purpose, enclosed dining canopy that could be made use of in all seasons and weathers. It hoped to find a model with everything from lighting to heat absorbent glass, so it could be a favourite facility of staff and students at break times in even the hottest or coldest months of the year. We were thrilled when they approached us to carry out this exciting project.

After much discussion about various ideas, Sydenham School selected our ever-popular Motiva Expanse™. Our Featured Tepee Canopy Projects

Large Fabric Tepee Shelter Made for Hedgewood School in Hayes

Playground tepee we designed for Hedgewood SchoolHedgewood School wanted their pupils to be able to enjoy their playground space throughout the year and during some lessons too. To allow the school to use this space, it was decided to add a large canopy to the area. A&S Landscape was brought on board to design, manufacture and install the fabric structure.

To match the school’s branding, the steelwork was finished in a Moss Green colour and the fabric in Sky Blue. Waterproof material was used which meant the shelter would provide all-year-round protection, come rain or shine. Thanks to the clever tepee design, only four uprights were used in the structure, meaning more useable space was created. The school also choose to add post pad protectors the shelter, for an extra layer of safety and security.

Once the drawings were signed off, our expert installation team efficiently installed the tepee at the school during the summer holidays. This meant that when the school reopened for the new term, the outside space could be used straight away. The newly created space will also help the school in keeping their staff and pupils safe during coronavirus, as the area can be used during lessons, playtimes and lunch too.

Shooters Hill Sixth Form College in Greenwich Add Three Tepee Canopies

Green tepee canopies we designed for Shooters Hill CollegeThe Royal Borough of Greenwich, south east London, is home to Shooters Hill Sixth Form College, a co-educational establishment offering further education to young people from the local community and beyond.

With underutilised space in the campus grounds and an ever-flowing traffic of students, they wanted to add an outdoor space that would provide students with a meeting point, whatever the weather. With a footprint coverage to work with of 15 metres x 5 metres, they wanted to create a standing canopy with dependable rain shelter and sun shade.

With help from the A&S Landscape team, they chose a Maxima Tepee™ as their base design. By grouping together a structure of three, a modular effect was achieved to cover the area designated for this free-standing canopy installation. This tensile canopy system utilises a heavy-duty fabric offering waterproof coverage and UV protection. To pick up on the black frames of the windows in the building behind the canopy location, the installation was finished in Jet Black (RAL 9005) steelwork and brightly coloured fabric in Turquoise Green (RAL 6016). These colours, which are available along with a variety of others in our colour range, add to the overall design of the structure.

Contemporary Shade Sail Added to Regent High School in London

Regent High School in London needed to create some shelter for their table tennis area, because they wanted students to have the option to play matches and support each other as spectators throughout the year. It needed to be able to accommodate multiple table tennis tables and seating, and add something visually impressive to the architecture. This project was also important as it would encourage students to try different sports at school and fit more fresh air and movement into their day. The staff got in touch with us and we quickly got to work manufacturing their ideal canopy.

After much deliberation, the Maxima Sail™ was the winning model. We thought this was well-thought-out as this shade sail looks striking and also effectively protects spaces in the rain. We built it to feature three 6000mm X 6000mm sails on eight uprights, with Slate Grey steelwork and an eye-catching Steel Blue roof. This offered lots of space for the children to make more frequent use of the table tennis tables and seating.

The shade sail was just what Regent High School ordered and now, students can enjoy playing table tennis outdoors in all weathers and they can relax and support each other in the area too. The triple sail model has added something special to the space, easily works with seating beneath it and is a real selling point for potential attendees. Bespoke Dining Shelter Added to Grounds at Richmond Park Academy

Richmond Park Academy in London wanted a bespoke dining canopy so its students could have a new facility in which to spend breaks between classes, year-round. It needed to fit their brief and requirements perfectly, including glass side panels and a modern look that worked with the aesthetics of the school. The team contacted us as we had successfully worked with the Trust before and they were also impressed by our designs.

We installed a bespoke Motiva Linear™ at Richmond Park Academy. This type of shelter and our design capacity allow us to adapt our products to accommodate customers’ specific preferences. Plus, the Motiva Linear™ element made for a striking canopy structure that could easily work as an efficient dining shelter and withstand the elements. We added glass side panels for extra protection, as well as an Opal roof and Slate Grey steelwork for a contemporary feel.

The dining canopy was well-received by everyone at Richmond Park Academy. It has created a fantastic covered space where students can eat, relax and socialise while getting some much-needed fresh air. What’s more, it could also be instrumental in the design of a new outdoor learning area, and have other purposes. Lordship Lane Primary School Installs Colourful Playground Shelter

Lordship Lane Primary School in London needed a playground canopy to bring a spark of colour to its outdoor area and help the children to get outdoors in rain or shine. The team there wanted it to boast many colours, so it looked exciting and visually interesting and pupils would want to spend time beneath it. The shelter had to be able to withstand bad weather and suit their space with a long, extended design.

Representatives from Lordship Lane Primary School contacted us and we worked together to find the right solution. The result of this was that they chose our Motiva Linear™, a model with solid steel framework and a Dura-coat™ finish that lets it look its best for years to come. This was ideal for their bright canopy structure, which we built with a multicoloured polycarbonate roof and Anthracite Grey steelwork that instantly lit up the playground. It also measured 19500mm X 3600mm to create the narrow but substantial shelter that they required to keep the rain off of pupils at break times.

The playground canopy was well-received by everyone at Lordship Lane Primary School; the children have fun under it throughout the year and love the array of colours on the roof because they always look cheerful. Email us at [email protected] if you’d like to discuss your shelter options now.

Classic Dining Canopy Installed at Orleans Park School in Twickenham

Orleans Park School in Twickenham, London needed a dining shelter so it could improve its outdoor facilities at break times and lunch times. The staff wanted to boost their community’s wellbeing through the new opportunities the structure would provide, plus how it would increase the welcoming feel of the outside architecture. They were looking for a simple, modern design that could accommodate benches underneath it, and we were happy to find them a solution.

Following talks about the different products available, Orleans Park School chose our Motiva Duo™. This was an excellent choice for a dining canopy because it has the most common configuration for standalone structures or structures against low roofline buildings, which this shelter type usually requires. We installed the school’s free standing canopy with 12000mm X 5000mm specifications that would easily work with benches beneath, along with an Opal roof and Brown Red steelwork to build on the appeal of the outside space.

The dining shelter has provided somewhere students can find access to the outdoors throughout the year. This is invaluable as it means they can spend time in areas other than their classrooms, get away from the studying mindset, and relax and recuperate more easily with friends and food during breaks. We were glad that we could offer Orleans Park School a facility that could help them support their learners’ wellbeing. Contact us at 01743 444100 if you’d like to explore a similar option at your institution.

Matching Dining Canopy and Covered Ramped Walkway Added to Skinners’ Academy in London

Skinners’ Academy in London was searching for a dining shelter and a ramped walkway shelter to protect students, staff and visitors in bad weather. The former would create a valuable new space for break times and lunchtimes, while the latter would ensure anyone arriving at the building and using the ramp wouldn’t be bothered by the rain or wind. Large dimensions for both canopies were essential for maximum coverage, and the staff wanted them to reflect the school’s branding. After they got in touch, we endeavoured to make this a reality.

Our team discussed the way forward with this client and they picked out a Motiva Linear™ for their covered walkway. This model is a popular choice among those looking for this canopy type and it suited the lengthy 30457mm X 4000mm dimensions well. What’s more, we supplied a 20000mm X 8000mm Motiva Duo™, which made for an impressive dining shelter. The Opal roofs and Traffic Red steelwork on each structure were a great boost to the outdoor representation of the institution’s colours.

Skinners’ Academy had a very positive response to the new canopies. They have ensured the freedom of students to experience dining outside during their breaks year-round and the safe accessibility of the ramped walkway for those with disabilities or mobility issues in rain or shine. Lampton School in Hounslow Orders Effective Covered Walkway

Lampton School in Hounslow was looking for a covered walkway so students could stay dry when moving around outdoors in the rain. The staff there wanted a model that would complement the contemporary site and be reliable in all seasons, as well as be long enough to have multiple uses and shelter many people at once. We soon got to work with them to make their canopy vision a reality.

We talked with Lampton School about what they wanted to achieve through their project, and this resulted in them choosing our Motiva Linear™. Thanks to its monopitch roof design, it can have a myriad of uses and it works well against building elevations such as for covered walkways. An Opal roof and Signal Grey steelwork set off the modern facilities nicely, and impressive 12410mm X 3000mm specifications created space for a large number of students to shelter there in bad weather.

The new canopy was a success at Lampton School. It looks wonderful stretching down the side of the building with the right colour palette for their institution, and it has offered them a way to walk outside without being bothered by the wind or rain. The Coopers’ Company and Coborn School in Upminster Purchases Second Dining Shelter

The Coopers’ Company and Coborn School in Upminster was searching for a dining canopy to build on its outdoor facilities. As they already had an A&S Landscape shelter on-site, the new model needed to complement this and provide the same excellent coverage for children looking to eat alfresco, regardless of the weather. The staff also wanted to ensure that it was as safe as it could be, and they naturally contacted us to install the structure.

Following discussions around the various types and comparisons with the existing shelter, The Coopers’ Company and Coborn School chose to install a Motiva Duo™ with an Opal roof and Jet Black steelwork. Their first canopy was the same model with White steelwork and an Opal roof, and the team was impressed with its curved symmetric roof and durability so we understood why they wanted another one. What’s more, measurements of 12000mm X 7000mm could cover many students eating outside year-round, and half a dozen post protector pads would keep them safe in that space.

The Coopers’ Company and Coborn School loves its new dining canopy and how it matches, but doesn’t completely replicate, its first A&S Landscape product. Students are enjoying benefits for their mental health by being able to eat in the fresh air under the new facility, and it is a great asset to the institution. Brent Knoll School add Shade Sails to Award-worthy Playground

Sail we designed for Brent Knoll SchoolTheir outdoor facilities are particularly impressive. With faux grass, they have installed all-weather areas, including sandpits, play frame equipment and a wonderful tiered water play area.

All these wonderful spaces needed to have some shade from the sunshine so that they could be enjoyed all year round. This is where A&S Landscape came on board. We added five rectangular shade cloth sails over the water play area as well as two sails over the play area and sandpit area. All the sails were installed in matching Turquoise fabric to bring the areas together. The end result is a striking design.

So impressive was the end result, that the whole school was shortlisted for an architectural award. The most important customers, the children themselves, are very happy with their outside space. Enjoying the area even on the sunniest days of the year. A&S Landscape has more than 40 years’ experience in transforming outdoor areas for schools and other commercial buildings. Outdoor Shelter at Sheringham Primary School

Walkway canopy we fitted at Sheringdale Primary SchoolSo when Sheringham Primary School contacted A&S Landscape, looking for just such an addition, we had exactly the canopy in mind.

Outside one of the classrooms at Sheringham Primary School, we installed this small but very effective Motiva Linear to a size of 4500mm x 2500mm in slate grey steelwork (RAL 7015) with opal roofing. The result is that we now have shelter at Sheringham Primary School.

Not only that but the opal roofing helps with temperature control, blocking the sun from shining directly into the classroom. Sheringham Primary School has a flexible outdoor space that will last them for many, many years. When considering an outdoor playground canopy, you don’t need to be looking at something huge. It might be that all you really need is a small but effective outdoor classroom extension canopy that will give you the additional space you need to carry out lessons that were otherwise weather dependant.

Shade Sail Canopy Designed for Morningside Primary School

David Livingstone Academy Create Shelter in Playground

David Livingstone Academy CanopyHowever, playing outside, which offers even more benefits, from fresh air to natural light, is always at the mercy of the weather. And until Google builds us the remote control for rain clouds that we’ve been emailing them about we have to find a way around that. So when David Livingstone Academy got in touch looking to add an outdoor playground canopy we were more than happy to help.

Installing a Motiva Linear at 8000mm x 8000mm has transformed the space. Made from galvanised and polyester powder coated steel, this covered area will last for many years and the aluminium guttering, which is so much better than plastic, will also continue to work hard for a very long time.

The result is a canopy. Isn’t it? No. The result is play. Play that doesn’t have to wait for the sun to come out. Play that doesn’t have to be taken indoors at the first drop of rain. This is play that is always available, all year round and means it can become a healthy and consistent part of the curriculum.

Maxima TepeeIt is not every day of the week we supply three completely different products from our range to the same school but in this case, we had the breadth of products that suited the Academy. When you’re in demand, you’re in demand.

Combining a Maxima Tepee, Maxima Fabric Sail structure and Motiva Linear we created different zones. The addition of side panels stops the wind driving through, meaning it is a relaxing and comfortable space whatever the weather.

Covered Dining Canopy at Christ’s College

Christ’s College Straight Roof ShelterAfter some discussion and reassurance, they agreed on a design of steel and polycarbonate in muted colours. This meant that the canopy worked in harmony with the natural environment but had all the advantages of reduced maintenance and greater longevity when compared with a timber canopy. The steelwork was Mahogany Brown (RAL 8016) and the roof was opal polycarbonate.

The resulting covered area measures a fantastic 14000mm x 6300mm and has matching guttering and downpipes. Christ’s College has added 14 picnic benches to the space, creating a really popular dining and socialising area for their students.

The new outdoor dining area is well used by the pupils of Chiswick High School. Not just at lunchtime but at other break times as well. They could even do some work here sheltered from the rain or shaded from the sun. As more schools grow in pupil numbers, the challenge of space at lunchtime is becoming a common one. If you think your school could benefit from a covered outdoor dining area please get in touch. We have a number of designs for you to consider.

Outdoor Dining Canopy at The Coopers’ and Coborn School

Shelter installed for The Coopers Coburn SchoolA large underused space was identified and a curved roof canopy from our Motiva Duo™ range was measured. The final size was 16000mm x 8000mm and the chosen steelwork colour was White (RAL 9010), with an Opal roof. The area created allowed for lots of seating and the students can use the area flexibly, for dining, studying or socialising as they wish.

An outdoor canopy can create a year-round space for pupils and take the pressure off communal areas such as dining halls when schools grow. This canopy had a polycarbonate roof which offers both shade and shelter. Fabric roofs are available in two materials, shade cloth, which will protect from UV rays, and PVC, which will offer shelter from the rain as well as shade. This canopy looks fantastic and has made a big difference to students at The Coopers’ and Coborn School.

Large Shade Sail Covers Seating Area at Worcester Primary School

Worcester Primary School CanopySo when we were approached to complete a stylish outdoor area at Worcester Primary School we knew exactly what to do! Worcester Primary School were on the lookout for some high-quality shade canopies to cover a multi-level space at the back of their classrooms. They chose a Maxima Shade Sail for its functional quality as well as its flair and imaginative look. Working alongside Kirkman and Jourdain we installed a Maxima Shade Sail, using ten green (RAL 6005) uprights that, together, held 2 large rectangular sails in a natural coloured fabric.

The result is the capital ‘D’ we talked about at the start. An effective cover from the hot Summer sun that also offers a smart and playful silhouette that will last for many years to come. We only do design with a capital ‘D’. Every one of our shelters will solve a problem but they are so much more, creating beautiful structures that look as good as the job they do. If you want to find out more about our outdoor shade sails or classroom extension canopies then take a look at our whole range of finished projects here.

St Martin’s Primary School in Middlesex Adds a School Canopy Outside the Classroom

St Martins Primary School CanopyThe covered area means that the children are sheltered from the sun and the rain as they enter the building. The space can be used to store school items and children can play and learn underneath the canopy as well, without having to worry about the weather. The Motiva Linear canopy was installed at 11790mm x 3000mm and includes aluminium gutters and downpipes to manage the rainwater.

The canopy looks fantastic, with Slate Grey (RAL 7015) steelwork and an Opal polycarbonate roof. An added benefit of the canopy is that it will help to regulate the temperature inside the classroom on very warm days. Acting as a shade from the sunshine, the canopy will ensure that the children inside won’t be sat in bright sunlight trying to work or see the board. It is very versatile and St Martin’s Primary school are very happy with it.

Meridian Angel School Add Blue Fabric Playground Shade Sail

Meridian Angel School Umbrella CanopyThe problem is, there is always an easy solution. To provide shelter from the rain, the easiest solution is to simply stay indoors. However, if we accept that staying indoors is not the answer, there are still a lot of flimsy outdoor shelters that may well do a decent job of keeping you dry.

But dull, uninspiring spaces create dull, uninspired minds. We can learn to fight back against that but we can also create better spaces, so we never have that problem in the first place.

Our Maxima range is all about bringing a little delight back into outdoor playground shelters. A&S Landscape was asked to install one of our most popular designs at Meridian Angel School.

We installed two Maxima Umbrellas at a size of 5000mm x 5000mm that created a large area of shelter and shade in the playground at Meridian Angel School. With Yellow steelwork (RAL 1021) and Lagoon fabric, these shelters look fantastic as well as being safe, thanks for the addition of 1200mm high post pads!

The result is an inspiring space that gives shelter from the rain, shade from the sun and will last for many, many years. All this ensuring that Meridian Angel School have created a valuable space for their children to play in. You can see more examples of inspiring shelters by looking at our gallery of finished projects. Ask yourself, which type of shelter would have the biggest impact on your students? If you have any questions, get in touch and a member of our design team can have a full proposal with you by the very next day.

Straight Roof Playground Canopies at Allen Edwards Primary School in Stockwell

Allen Edwards Primary School within the borough of Lambeth, Southwest London, wanted to complement their recent school redevelopment with an additional outdoor space. The school required access to the playground in all weathers as well as the option to store school equipment.

After contacting the team at A&S Landscape, the school were instantly struck by the design of the Motiva Linear™ straight roof canopies. The playground was large enough to accommodate a pair of canopies, and guttering, to be built side-by-side. The structure was to be fashioned from Slate Grey steelwork and completed with an opal polycarbonate roof. The overall size was 16000mm x 4000mm and 15000mm x 4000mm.

The school were particularly impressed with how neat, tidy and organised the contractors were as well as the quality of the roof and the overall finish of the steelwork. Pupils, and staff, now have a really stylish outdoor space that matches the rest of their 21st-century redevelopment.

Being able to utilise additional outdoor space, without worrying about the weather, is a very current topic and certain to be at the top of agendas for all educational decision-makers. StarSail Canopy Enhances The Courtyard School in London

The Court Yard CanopyThe Courtyard School is a free school for pupils with special educational needs. The pupils who attend the school have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder and/or speech, language and communication needs. The outdoor space at the school offers another area for children to learn, relax, socialise and have some quiet time. Given we have the British weather to contend with, the school thought it would be pertinent to add some shade and shelter to the garden.

A&S Landscape offers a wide variety of shade and shelter solutions and we have worked with schools for more than 40 years. Some of our canopies have polycarbonate roofing and others offer shade cloth or PVC fabric roofing. The Courtyard chose a StarSail product for their setting. The steelwork is Grey (RAL 7038) and the roof fabric is Moss Green. The StarSail covers a large area and stands at 6000mm x 6000mm. They also added a post protector to the steelwork for extra protection.

The StarSail canopy is very smart indeed. The garden now has a focus and the children have an area of shade and shelter which they can enjoy all year round. Children with additional needs often need some quiet time to help them manage their day and this new canopy area adds another option for children at The Courtyard. We hope that they continue to enjoy it for many years to come.

Smart Grey School Canopy at Fox Primary School

Wide Span Canopy Provides Covered Play Space in North London at Millbrook School

When Millbrook Park School contacted usMillbrook Primary School, they already had outdoor shelters, but whilst they looked pretty good they just weren’t large enough to supply generous covered play space. Working with Millbrook School we took the time to be really clear on what they wanted and needed, designing and installing a Motiva Linear canopy in a smart grey steelwork with opal polycarbonate roofing.

But not only that, we reduced the uprights to just six, meaning that the space was wide and open, reducing the risk of playground accidents. It’s this kind of smart design that means function can always connect with fun. The result is not just a practical outdoor canopy, it’s a shelter that finally does the job it was always meant to do, providing all weather play space for children that they can really use in a stylish, effective outdoor shelter that looks as good and does the job.

The key to any project is to know what the resulting shelter really offers. Is it year round teaching space? Secure storage? A dining and social zone? Who will use it and what do they need? Answer those questions and we are certain we have a solution that will not only solve the problem but add an attractive new space to your campus. Take a look at our full Motiva Linear range today and imagine the kind of difference one could make.

Covered Walkway and Play Areas At St Mary’s Centre

Three straight roof canopies were installed at the site by A&S Landscape. The Motiva Linear shelters all featured brightly coloured Signal Green steelwork, which added a splash of colour to grounds. The Opal polycarbonate used on the canopies also protects against harmful UV rays, while allowing a safe amount of sunlight through. As a finishing touch, St Mary’s Centre also decided to add dark green post pads to the canopies too.

Now the outside space at the school can be used all-year-round, regardless of the weather. With two sheltered play areas and a covered walkway, everyone can move around the site protected from the elements. The pupils can also spend more time outside in the fresh air during their breaks, which will have many benefits on their health and wellbeing.

Uxendon Primary School Add Straight Roof Shelters To Play Area

but customisation doesn’t have to be a huge change. It can just be an adaptation that means your shelter feels at home in its new surroundings.

We call these small changes, ‘tweaks’ and when we began working with Uxendon Manor Primary School to install some outdoor learning canopies, it was all about the tweaks. We installed two Motiva Linear canopies at an overall size of 21000mm x 3000mm in a grey green steelwork. These outdoor playground shelters had matching Alu-Tuff™ box profile guttering in Dura-Coat™ paintwork but the real stand out detail was the roof. Clear polycarbonate roofing was completed with a solid fascia detail that utilised opal polycarbonate tiles giving the roof a more solid look and blending beautifully with the surrounding buildings.

The result of any tweak is something a little unique, a custom-built outdoor playground shelter that looks like no other and will stand the test of time. Not only that but beyond the customisation is the shelter itself. This shelter provides Uxendon Manor Primary School with an additional learning resource that means their children can spend more time outdoors all year round. You can look at our whole range of Motiva Linear and if you have any questions, get in touch.

Old Oak Primary School Create Shaded Area in Play Area

Canopy we designed for Old Oak Primary SchoolOld Oak Primary School is a community school located in London. Old Oak has a traditional ethos but combines this with cutting edge teaching and learning. They know what they’re doing and they know what they want, which is why they called in A&S Landscape to install a new outdoor dining canopy.

We installed a Maxima Shade Sail with bold, blue steelwork (RAL5010) and playful Cherry Red tensile shade cloth. With the addition of four light blue post pads, this structure is both aesthetically pleasing and totally safe. It is important to realise that nothing is ever just a sum of its parts. This Maxima Shade Sail is not just steel and fabric. When seen in situ, it’s a functional, yet whimsical design that offers an enjoyable place to eat or play, protecting from direct sunlight and rain whilst feeding the imagination of everybody around.

There are so many decisions to make when adding a new outdoor canopy for play or learning to your school, the most important of which is ‘how do I want people to feel when using it?’. There are so many different types of playground shelters and dining area covers and each one will feel a little different. Do you want to provide strong, confident design or softer, more playful cover? Whatever you choose, you’ll get the same outstanding protection from the elements, but both will offer a different experience for your students. The University of Roehampton in London Finds New Entrance Canopy

The team there – which is committed to students’ health and wellbeing – wanted a product that looked simple yet modern and was adapted to the building’s entrance. We were pleased to be contacted to take on this project.
