What was the project brief?
The Shipman Youth Zone is a specialised facility that is designed to provide young people with a safe and supportive space to engage in recreational, social, and educational activities. The site has recently undergone a full rebuild and refurbishment, resulting in a welcoming and modern space. As part of this project, the team aimed to include a covered walkway to protect the children as they move between buildings and to enable year-round use of the outdoor areas.
We provided our bespoke configurations of our Motiva Linear™ canopies, featuring a Blue Grey Duracoat™ on all steelwork, and our popular Opal polycarbonate roof. These premium-grade materials have been specially configured to ensure our canopies are built to stand the test of time, and protect from harsh weather.
The centre do excellent work with youths to build confidence and social connections, as well as providing specialist services for young people with special educational needs. Outdoor play and exposure have a key role in children’s development and well-being, and it is especially key for centres to be able to offer this in built-up areas, such as London, where access to these spaces is limited.
