Brighton and Hove Junior High School Add School Playground Canopy
So when we were contacted by a leading play equipment installation company and asked to provide a couple of our trademark Motiva Wave™ canopies, we knew that it wasn’t really about the canopy, it was about the freedom to play. We installed two Motiva Wave™ canopies finished in a green RAL 6005 steelwork. These two canopies, with opal roofing, were part of a larger scheme to reinvent these play areas. The whole scheme was complete with artificial turf and new play equipment and is a credit to the installation company.
Now, children at Brighton and Hove Junior High School can play outdoors whatever the weather, not limited to any specific time of the year, play has become an essential part of the curriculum at this school. Whether you’re looking for outdoor playground canopy extensions or, perhaps, a colourful covered walkway for schools, you’ll find that A&S Landscape has every solution you could hope for.
But remember, don’t start with the canopy, start with the benefit. What do you want? For children to spend more time outside, getting fresh air and natural light? Start with that and then ask, which of these shelters would help you to do that?
David Lloyd Brighton in Brighton Sources Effective Outdoor Gym Canopy
David Lloyd Brighton in Brighton wanted to find a practical shelter to cover gym equipment in its outdoor workout area. The team at the site – which describes itself on its website as ‘more than just a gym, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere’ – thought the canopy should be both practical and appealing. This meant it should offer great protection from the elements year-round and complement the look of the existing buildings. We were thrilled when they got in touch with us.
We looked at several models with the staff and they chose to purchase one of our Motiva Linear™ shelters. This was a brilliant selection because the polycarbonate roof holds up excellently in bad weather and also lends a classy feel to any outdoor space. Slate Grey steelwork and an Opal roof blended in with the architecture outside and 5500mm X 4600mm specifications were more than large enough to shelter David Lloyd Brighton’s workout equipment outside in the rain.
The staff and customers love the new outdoor gym shelter and now members can exercise outdoors in any season, without worrying about the unpredictable British weather. The subtle, straight roof design was a welcome and attractive addition to the outside area, and we were pleased to add this project to our portfolio of successful work with commercial clients. Walkway Canopy at Horsham Football Club
The Motiva range of steel and polycarbonate canopies from A&S Landscape has a number of designs to choose from; straight roof Linear canopies, curved roof Duo and Mono canopies and Cantilever canopies. The solution for Horsham FC was a Cantilever canopy, which meant that the posts remained adjacent to the building and the polycarbonate roof reached out 3m to cover the path. The Motiva Cantilever canopy was installed with black steelwork and clear polycarbonate and it adds a modern look to the club.
The new covered walkway has created an additional sheltered area for fans to stand and watch the games, move around the club and enjoy some respite from the wetter days of the sporting calendar. The design of the canopy works perfectly in this area, minimising posts has meant fewer obstructions and maximum shelter. With so many design options, A&S Landscape is sure to be able to create a bespoke solution for whatever your requirement.

Covered Relaxation and Social Area Added to Thomas A Becket Junior School in Worthing
Thomas A Becket Junior School in Worthing, West Sussex were on a mission to improve their mental health facilities. As part of this, they wanted to create a covered outdoor area where pupils could socialise, relax and reflect by themselves or with others all year round. The shelter needed to be waterproof to shield those underneath from the elements, as well as complement the existing buildings surrounding their courtyard.
A&S Landscape brought lots of options to the table, but the school ultimately chose the Maxima Tepee™ as the winning model. This thoughtful school – that has the motto ‘Together Achieving Better’ (Be the best you can be) – thought that the strong, sleek design and waterproof PVC fabric roof would meet their needs and work well as their new outdoor custom canopy. The Maxima Tepee™ they decided on measured 5m X 5m with a white roof and Dusty Grey steelwork, which gave the space a modern feel without any bright colours that might distract relaxing pupils.
The covered social shelter helped to transform the courtyard, alongside new benches, and now children have somewhere peaceful to socialise and reflect while reaping the wellbeing benefits of being outside. It can protect them from the elements on rainy days and is a great example of our work with schools. Interested in discovering how a canopy could help improve your facilities?
