Blackfen School for Girls in Sidcup, Kent wanted a dining shelter so it could create a fully-fledged outdoor facility where students could eat al fresco without being bothered by bad weather. The staff were looking for a model with an enclosed design to keep out the wind and rain and heating and lighting to make it usable all through the year, even on the coldest days of winter. They also thought that it should be of a substantial size to ease pressure on other dining facilities by housing large portions of the school community – whose vision is to raise aspirations and release the potential of every young person – and be coloured to reflect some of its branding. We were thrilled when this institution got in touch with us to build its ideal canopy.
After discussing our product range and the intended location with our client, we installed a Motiva Duo™ in their grounds. This model was a great choice for a dining shelter packed with features because of its strong curved roof and its wide range of side panel and door options. We built it with 15000mm X 10000mm specifications to make lots of room for learners relaxing and eating, as well as resin flooring, lighting and heating so that the facility could be utilised comfortably on any day of the year. What’s more, we added glass panels to two of the side and end elevations to offer additional protection from the elements and two sets of double doors to ensure easy access for all. An Opal roof and Ultramarine Blue steelwork completed the structure with a classy feel that complemented the school’s colours.
The dining canopy has been a hit with this customer in Kent; its enclosed nature means that staff and students can eat outdoors in all seasons, even if it’s raining, and the heating, lighting and bright design make it an attractive and popular place for everyone to spend time in. Its size allows many people to enjoy it at once and lends it to other possible purposes too, such as outdoor learning to expand opportunities within the curriculum. Plus, indoor dining isn’t so busy or cramped as there is now another option of where to sit at break times and lunch times. It was a pleasure to work with this passionate institution and help the team there to improve their facilities.
We can install a canopy to suit any customer and any set of requirements, from schools to businesses and from simple projects to sites that need a little more thought to be matched with the right product. We can provide entrance shelters to highlight the way in to your building, covered walkways to shield pupils or visitors when moving around your site outside, cycle stores to create somewhere secure and dry for staff to keep their bikes and even playground canopies to eradicate wet playtimes.
