Cardinal Langley RC High School in Middleton, Greater Manchester had the idea of installing a dining shelter in order to create a new outdoor area for their students. It needed to be large enough to reduce pressure on their indoor dining facilities and fit several benches beneath it, robust so it could shield the children from undesirable weather, and aesthetically pleasing to add a new element to their school grounds.
A&S Landscape was pleased to be contacted by this institution and had a brilliant range of products for them to choose from.
After considering some different models, Cardinal Langley RC High School went for the Motiva Duo™. This duopitch (symmetric) variant has a stylish curved roof that offers great coverage for dining areas. The polycarbonate and solid steel are also high-quality materials, meaning that they can shield anyone beneath the shelter from wind and rain for many years. The school purchased a model with Traffic Red steelwork and an Opal roof – a classic design of fantastic contrast that immediately brightened up the area. They also asked for it to be built to measure 22133mm X 7280/4360mm to offer lots of space for students to eat and relax at picnic benches. This would allow those taking breaks in the indoor dining area to enjoy a little more room.
Students at Cardinal Langley RC High School think that the canopy is a modern, attractive addition to their facilities, and they can now enjoy spending lunchtimes and break times eating and socialising in an exciting new space. Staff were thrilled that the dining canopy was such a cost-effective solution that has opened up opportunities for the children throughout the year and improved their facilities. The area could even be used as an outdoor classroom gazebo during lessons to help students get the benefits of spending even more time in the fresh air. A&S Landscape thought that the school made excellent choices when it came to choosing the different elements of their new canopy, and was glad that it would be used so well.
Cardinal Langley RC High School is an 11-18 comprehensive school which serves the Catholic community of Middleton and North Manchester. They say on their website that they have high expectations of their students but also place an emphasis on learning outside of the classroom, so they offer opportunities to ‘engage with visiting speakers, theatre groups, external visits and residential experiences’. A&S Landscape enjoyed working with such a dedicated institution on their project to improve dining facilities for their students.
Middleton – where the school is located – is a now largely suburban area of Greater Manchester. Its Alkrington Garden Village was one of the very first garden suburbs in the UK designed by Thomas Adams, famous for managing Letchworth Garden City. The town has a strong architectural heritage, including one of the first Palladian houses in England and a pioneering Victorian church. It has also previously been a centre for silk production and cotton spinning. With such varied culture and history, Middleton is sure to be an interesting and eye-opening place for local students like those of Cardinal Langley RC High School to grow up in.
There are many benefits to be found with both straight and curved roof shelters, but here are a few to help if you’re struggling to choose how to top your canopy.
Curved roof canopies have an artistic, stylish design that can complement many different types of architecture and can be statement pieces. They include simple symmetric designs as well as double curve roofs which come in an S shape. These can be very appealing to primary schools looking to liven up their outdoor facilities. Curved roof shelters are also versatile and can be used for outdoor learning, play, dining and more.
Our straight roof canopies include one of our most popular products: the Motiva Linear™. It offers protection from rain, wind and UV rays, and its monopitch (asymmetric) design means that it can adjoin any building to extend outside space. It is an ideal choice for covered walkways, dining areas and outdoor classrooms uk. Plus, the personalisation options are endless; you can choose from a multitude of colours for the polycarbonate sheeting and any RAL colour for the steelwork.
So, no matter your needs, you can find a fantastic straight or curved roof canopy for your business with A&S Landscape. Send us an email at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to help.
