Chaddlewood Primary School in Devonshire had some funds left over from a grant. The team decided they wanted to replace the old timber canopy they had with a design which was lower maintenance and of a higher quality. A&S Landscape worked closely with the school to propose one of the robust polycarbonate and steel models.
We installed our straight roof shelter, the Motiva Linear™, which features solid steel framework and integral guttering. Chaddlewood Primary School were keen to use a colourful roof pattern on their canopy, which was achieved with clear and yellow polycarbonate sheeting. This contrasts well with the brown steelwork which was also chosen by the school from our wide range of colours.
Everyone at the school loves the design of the new shelter and it is a much-improved replacement of the timber canopy. The children enjoy playing under the canopy during their breaks and it has become the perfect place to play in. The shelter is ideal when it starts to rain or if it gets too hot, meaning the pupils can stay outside more often.
The canopy has also met all of the team’s requirements, as it requires minimal maintenance and is built from the highest quality materials so it can be used for many years. The colourful roof also adds a great design feature to the area, stimulating the pupil’s imaginations.
Located on the outskirts of Plymouth, Chaddlewood Primary School are based on a large site with plenty of outdoor space. With a forest school, athletics fields and adventure playground equipment, the pupils regularly get to spend quality time outside in the fresh air.
It was a pleasure and a fantastic experience working with such a lovely local school, helping them to further improve the great facilities and education experience on offer. Every member of staff was enthusiastic about helping the school reach its potential, including the Headteacher Sarah King. We hope we get the opportunity to work with Chaddlewood Primary School again.
Our range of primary school canopies and shelters can be used for a variety of applications. We can also make our products bespoke to your exact requirements, ensuring that you get the best finished product. We’ll highlight just some of the most popular uses for our canopies for schools to help inspire you for your next project.
Outdoor classroom
More and more nurseries and primary schools are holding lessons outdoors in an alternative learning environment due to the many benefits this has. However, the British weather is often unpredictable (and wet!), meaning it can be hard for teachers to plan these lessons. Our school canopies create a sheltered space which is protected from the elements, so classes can be held outside come rain or shine. This learning space will help to engage the pupils as they experience the world around them first-hand.
Storage shelters
Often storage space is at a premium in the school building and bulky play equipment can be hard to store efficiently. Our shelters double up as a great space for items to be kept overnight and out of term-time. Side panels and roller shutter doors can also be added to make the canopy secure for additional peace of mind. We also offer printed polycarbonate designs to make the enclosed shelters a design feature in your playground, ask us about this option today!
Seating covers
Our wide selection of fabric canopies is ideal for covering outdoor seating areas. This allows your pupils to enjoy their lunch alfresco in a lovely place while relieving pressure from the internal dining hall. This dining space could also be using during fêtes and events held at the school too. It’s a great way of getting more use out of the school grounds throughout the term.
Waiting area
Another great use of our canopies is to create a sheltered waiting area for pupils to use before entering a classroom. Parents and carers could also make use of this covered outdoor space at the end of the school day if the weather conditions are poor.
Schools increasingly need to obtain additional space to teach pupils either as a class or in smaller focus groups. As an alternative looking inside, there is often unused space outside a school.
Outdoor classrooms can not only produce space but also a stimulating learning area for children and teachers alike. This change of scenery can instil superior concentration and rekindle interest in a subject matter. Even the biggest of outdoors spaces will need to be provided with some basics if they are to be used for outdoor classrooms.
