The prestigious King’s School in Chester were looking for a solution to the problem of a long pathway along a section of the building adjacent to the carpark, having no protection from the rain.

The walkway has heavy footfall at all times of the day and so staff and pupils of the independent school for boys and girls aged from 4-18 were often exposed to inclement weather conditions. A long covered walkway was the perfect solution and A&S Landscape was delighted to help.
As we know, the school-age population has been rising. The amount of five to ten year old children in primary schools increased by 446,000 (13%) between 2010 and 2016.
The Department for Education has the mission to create the 420,000 new school places that are required between 2016 and 2021 and there are a number of ways that this can be achieved. New schools are being constructed, free schools are being funded and existing schools are collecting capital funding to uphold, enhance and grow facilities. With capital being strained, one way that schools are using this capital funding is to make the most of their outside space. Whether to build new classrooms or to add sheltered spaces which can have loads of different uses.
