The Vine School in Leeds Enhances Outdoor Space with New Pupil Shelters

What was the project brief?

The Vine is a newly built SEN school facility with modern architecture and top-of-the-range facilities. The school were looking for A&S Landscape to design a canopy for their school, and the goal was to not only elevate the entrance of the school aesthetically but also provide functional coverage for students entering and exiting from the main car park. The client had been inspired by the key elements of our Motiva Cantilever™ installation at the Countess of Chester Hospital, but were looking for it to be tailored to suit their new architectural features – this required a tailored design that achieved a sleek and refined appearance while maintaining the durability essential for long-term use.

What was our canopy solution?

We provided The Vine with two canopies, one Motiva Cantilever™ measuring 34715mm X 3000mm, and one Motiva Entrada™ canopy measuring 3560mm X 1889mm. These canopies were styled using our sleek Jet Black Duracoat™ and our durable polycarbonate roofing in shade Moondust. The school were really pleased with the finished installation, and the canopies are providing effective cover for pupils entering and leaving the school during bad weather.

About the client

The Vine is home to a specialist PMLD (profound and multiple learning disability) provision. That provides personalised learning programmes to meet the needs of learners with severe and complex learning difficulties. All of the facilities within the Vine have been designed with the needs of SEN learners in mind. Alongside a canopy area, the school features a hydrotherapy pool, sensory rooms, and rebound facilities, ensuring students have a comfortable, supportive, and enriching learning environment.
