Installing this curved roof outdoor shelter in Telford, Shropshire came with unexpected benefits for Tibberton Primary School. Initially, they were simply looking for a solution to hot classrooms, a way to better control the temperature and manage the environment for their students. But with this smart, outdoor covered canopy they have a dry walkway, can take teaching outside but they also now have a much smarter school!
Brown Red - RAL NO. 3011
Opal
Using a Motiva Mono at 28000mm x 3000mm and 9000 x 3000mm in a Brown Red (RAL3011), Tibberton Primary School were delighted to find that the new outdoor canopy gave them a powerful aesthetic update with the Headteacher commenting, ‘it has given our basic 1970’s building a real presence!’
“The canopy fitted around our school has proven to be an excellent asset, providing shelter for both parents and pupils, a secure outside space for our younger pupils and shields classroom windows from direct sunlight, helping us to better control the temperature in the classrooms. One unexpected benefit is the aesthetic impact on the school – it has given our basic 1970’s building a real presence! The quality of work undertaken by A&S Landscape is excellent. Throughout the period of the build, full consideration was given to the needs of the school and every effort was made to ensure that the school had as little disruption as possible. A great product and an excellent service, many thanks.”

Play is the centre of childhood, when children are well and unquestionably being themselves, but for a great number of children the chance to play outdoors, enjoying exercise and fresh air, is restricted. Today’s generation of children aged 4-11 years spend a lot of hours playing computer games, on iPads and watching TV and so this invaluable period of activity is more pivotal than ever to counter long periods inside in front of a screen. Astounding recent research show that a third of children play outside for half an hour or less in a typical day. That’s less time outdoors than prison inmates get! Of the 1,000 UK families who took part in the survey, 82% blamed the unreliable British weather.
Promoting more outdoor play is not just about the physical element of their health though. Active play during breaks and lunchtimes are also helping children’s mental health. It teaches them how to raise their views and feelings and listen to those of others. The practice of expressing themselves, risk-taking and sharing are all pivotal stepping stones on the path to reaching adulthood with the means to discuss, debate and empathise.
