These shelters effortlessly add outdoor spaces, increasing the working area of a school by taking ownership of the outdoor space and repurposing it. They ensure that the area is available in rain or direct sunlight and they also have the additional benefit of shielding the classrooms themselves from sunlight, retaining a little additional temperature control.

Year-round quality outdoor play and its impact upon social and emotional development

A common but under-researched area of social and emotional development in children is recognising the value of spending time outside and how significant the effects are. For such a fundamental piece of childhood, the gaps in research here are somewhat astonishing. Not least because, the research that currently exists demonstrates that there is obvious evidence that outdoor time, like outdoor play, or outdoor classrooms, has a notable positive impact on a child’s social and emotional development. These developing studies come from various disciplines using a broad range of approaches that all lead to the same notion.

Specifically, papers addressing; risk-taking, sensory skills, confidence, and anxiety indicate how outdoor play positively influences children’s social and emotional development.
