Billing Brook School Academy in Northampton is an all-age special school with pupils from 4-19. At Billing Brook, there is an emphasis on providing the most vibrant experience for the children here, who have a wide range of learning difficulties. From speech, language and communication needs all the way through to children who have more severe medical difficulties.

That emphasis on vibrant experience follows through into the environment and anything new that is added here must also add something to the environment, something a little special.

So when Billing Brook contacted A&S Landscape to add some outdoor shelter to the playground they had a very particular vision in mind.

We worked closely with Billing Brook School Academy to install a Motiva Linear to a size of 6600mm x 3000mm. It featured blue steelwork (RAL 5002) with matching Alu-Tuff™ box profile guttering in Dura-Coat™ finish. But that wasn’t the most impressive part.

With colourful polycarbonate roofing in a range of colours, Billing Brook School Academy have their own little light show all day every day and it really comes to life when the sun shines on it directly.

“The project went extremely well, there were lots of people involved but everyone knew exactly what they were doing. It was very well organised, each person involved emailed us about different things but it all worked as they operated as an efficient unit. We went for the rainbow polycarbonate roof and it attracts lots of great comments, everyone loves it!”

How can learning outside help children with their academic performance and how can schools facilitate this?

For pupils, different environments can motivate and delight, producing an increased capableness to learn new information. At a young age, regular classrooms can provide little stimulation for children and educational growth can become limited. By exploring the use of outdoor teaching, children can find original and stimulating ways of learning. Fresh air, and the capability to teach in a much larger space, can open up new doors to the way that lessons are taught and the work which can be conducted.

Curved Roof Shelters Designed for Thrapston Primary School

Working with our building contractor client our engineers built a curved roof canopy in Thrapston Primary School Thrapston, Northamptonshire. The contract included one Motiva™ Mono monopitch curved roof canopy measuring 28250mm X 4900mm with Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes which were coated in a matching Dura-coat™ colour finish and post protector pads.

Gloucester Nursery School Add Polycarbonate Canopy to Play Area

A&S designed a straight polycarbonate roof canopy in Gloucester Nursery School Cambourne Close, Delapre, Northampton. The full contract involved the supply and installation of one Motiva™ monopitch straight coloured polycarbonate roof canopy measuring 4900mm X 4900mm with one polycarbonate side panel and included for our Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes which were coated in a matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.

Multicoloured Play Area Canopies Designed for Oundle Primary School

Working alongside our building contractor client we constructed a straight polycarbonate roof canopy for Oundle Primary School Oundle, Northamptonshire. The job involved the supply and installation of one Motiva™ monopitch straight roof canopy with coloured polycarbonate measuring 21700mm X 2960mm and 15800mm X 7950mm with Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes which were coated in a matching Dura-coat™ colour finish and eight post protection pads.

Olympic Primary School Install Playground Polycarbonate Shelter

In collaboration with a commercial partner A&S designed a straight polycarbonate roof canopy with roller shutters in Olympic Primary School Queensway, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. The job involved the supply and installation of one Motiva™ monopitch straight coloured polycarbonate roof canopy measuring 8000mm X 6000mm with three electrically operated roller shutter doors 4000mm wide and glazed panels to side elevation and Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes which were coated in a matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.

Pitsford School Add Curved Roof Canopy to Campus

Working for our building contractor client we produced a curved roof canopy at Pitsford School Pitsford, Northamptonshire. The full contract involved one Motiva™ Entro curved roof canopy measuring 3000mm X 1800mm and included for our Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes which were coated in a matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.

Working with our building contractor client our engineers built a straight polycarbonate roof canopy at Christopher Reeves School Podington, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. The full contract involved the supply and installation of one Motiva™ monopitch straight roof canopy measuring 17000mm X 4000mm and included for our Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes in matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.
