The Mawney Foundation School sought to increase the functionality of their multi-use games area so that pupils could play sports outside safely throughout the year. Working with A&S Landscape they were able to get a bespoke design to fit the exact space and dimensions of their existing pitch, and were provided with a durable and long-lasting design.

The Mawney Foundation School had a 32m x 16m area that they use to play sports; looking to enhance the functionality of their space, the school reached out to A&S Landscape to explore adding a large canopy, which would shelter students when playing outdoor sports during wet weather, increasing comfort and safety.
Our expert consultants collaborated closely with the school to design and install a custom canopy, precisely tailored to fit the dimensions of their games area. The completed Motiva Covered MUGA™ canopy boasts a durable galvanised finish and an Opal polycarbonate roof. Its sleek, long-lasting design not only offers a safe space for PE lessons all-year-round, but also doubles as a playground shelter – providing pupils with protection from unpleasant weather during break and lunch times.
Participation in outdoor sports is growing in popularity throughout the UK, providing proven health benefits, reducing individuals’ risk of major illnesses: such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and cancer by up to 50%, whilst lowering the risk of early death by up to 30%. Unfortunately, due to frequent poor weather throughout the UK, it is common for School’s to bring their P.E lessons indoors, to provide a more comfortable and safe experience for the students; however, studies have shown that outdoor exercise has greater benefits than indoor, leading to increased positive engagement, and decreases in tension, confusion, anger, and depression. Thanks to our Motiva Covered MUGA™ solution, schools can safely accommodate outdoor learning all year round, and thus promote enhanced learning behaviours among pupils.
