Sydenham School in Greater London Installs Dining Shelter

St Wilfrid’s Catholic High School had outgrown its dining room, which eventually could only seat half their pupils at a time. They looked at the options to increase dining space and realised that they couldn’t afford an extension building. That is when they contacted A&S Landscape and realised that an outdoor canopy, with side panels, power, heating and lighting could be a fantastic, cost-effective solution.

We were only too pleased to help and the project was agreed. We designed and installed a large Motiva Duo canopy from our range. With its curved roof it allowed space for blow heaters and lighting, to make sure that it could serve as a useful space all year round. We even added school logos to the glass side panels, a smart branding exercise which really adds the wow factor. Get a closer look at this enclosed dining shelter and watch our video filmed at St Wilfrid’s Catholic High School.
The children love using the new dining canopy. There are 16 picnic benches in the space which house many children without impacting on space in the original dining hall. If you need a sturdy bench for your dining shelter, download the datasheet for our Hercules Bench.
A&S Landscape has a wide range of products for you to review. All the different designs make sure that you will be able to find something to meet your needs. Download our Covered Dining Area Inspiration Brochure to see examples of the shelters we have installed at schools previously. Or review our gallery which has over 1500 images, it is a great place to get some inspiration for your project.
The Department for Education has the task to create the 420,000 new school places that are required between 2016 and 2021 and there are a good deal of ways that this can be completed. New schools are being built, free schools are being funded and existent schools are obtaining capital funding to uphold, upgrade and enlarge facilities. With budgets being strained, one way that schools are using this capital funding is to make the most of their outside space. Whether to build additional classrooms or to add sheltered spaces which can have a great deal of different uses.
Some applications of outdoor sheltered areas include:
• All-weather sports pitches
• Outdoor classroom
• Bicycle Storage
• Outdoor theatre
