The Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School in Greenford, Middlesex, took the decision to radically change their dining provision with the installation of not one, not two, not three, but four fabulous outdoor canopy covers.
The decision to do this came about from their exploration of how they could generate more space, utilising what was available already on their campus. The Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School believe in education for all, with a motto of ‘All things for Christ’. Amongst their aims and ethos, The Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School has the promotion of safe and healthy lifestyles for all of their students. Ensuring that their campus delivered the best day-to-day experience for all students was therefore important. The desire to improve dining facilities formed part of these aims, and they started to explore options after contacting A&S Landscape to see what solutions we might be able to suggest.
The scope of The Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School project gave us plenty of options. Their brief was clear: to generate additional outside, sheltered space specifically for students to use during lunchtimes. Because there was a request for four different canopies, this meant that there was room to create clearly zoned outdoor dining spaces.
This was an exciting prospect for our design team. It gave us a great deal of potential to help The Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School to create a zoned effect from the choice of options available in our product range. Our team designed a plan using the Motiva Duo™ canopy cover as the foundation for the overall brief. From this starting point, our solution was to install three Motiva Duo™ canopies measuring 12,000mm by 12,000mm and one measuring 9,000mm by 6,000mm.
The Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School told our team that they had chosen A&S Landscape because they had been impressed by our client testimonials. We have a wealth of experience in helping senior schools like The Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School to unlock the potential of their school site with our range of shelter solutions. This has meant that we have had the privilege of working with schools up and down the country. Taking a browse through our testimonials will show the different ways in which individual schools have used our Motiva Duo™ canopy with its lovely, curved roofline.
For The Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School, there were additional things to consider in order to create a truly custom canopy installation and to further bring the scheme together. There are lots of options available for the Motiva Duo™ canopy, including optional extras. There are a wide range of steel and roof colour options to choose from, and The Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School selected Jet Black (RAL 9005) and Opal roofing. The different options available mean that each canopy cover commissioned by each different customer is unique to their project.
The final free standing canopy installation delivered an expansive, yet cohesive, end result. With four impressive canopies in co-ordinated design, colour and style, there is now a series of newly designated outdoor dining zones. This is a fabulous and practical space for the pupils to use, and has a very positive effect on the otherwise pressed internal school spaces.
The Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School delivers education to pupils between the ages of 11 and 18 years. It’s a large school, both in terms of pupil numbers and teaching staff. With 1,900 pupils and a teaching staff of 120, it’s easy to see why they wanted to explore more creative ways of easing the pressure on their internal dining facilities by investing in this commercial school project.
The Cardinal Wiseman Catholic school originally opened in 1959 as a school for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 15 years. This long and proud history has culminated in many achievements for the school and it’s staff. Of notable celebration was their Ofstead rating of ‘Outstanding’ at their last inspection in 2018. This is a significant achievement and one which undoubtedly means that those fortunate enough to attend the school are in a fabulous place to learn and shape their future careers.
The Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School’s custom canopy project is a great example of the benefits of investing in a canopy cover for outdoor dining. As you’ll see from their project brief, they have gained many things including:
