The Hessle Academy, East Yorkshire add StarSails

A&S Landscape was approached to install canopies to a covered dining area at a through school in East Yorkshire. The Hessle Academy is a state of the art school which needed just a little bit of help to create a stunning outdoor dining area. We were happy to help! With many years’ experience working in the education sector, we knew that we would be able to provide ideas and inspiration.

The Maxima StarSail seemed the perfect product to complement the modern and stylish dining furniture and complete this lovely area. We installed three Maxima StarSails and used colours which complemented the modern feel of the school campus. In concrete and sandy beige, the StarSails immediately gave the dining area a clear identity. We also installed a StarSail at Foxwood & Highview SEN School. The students of Hessle Academy are enjoying the new dining area, which means they are able to eat, socialise, chat and generally relax at break times in the fresh air. It no longer matters what the weather is doing as the fabric used is from our waterproof range.

The Benefits of Eating Outdoors and Its Effect on Student Welfare

There is a lot of research that indicates the merits of spending time outside; lowering heart rate, blood pressure, stress hormones and muscle tension. It can even boost your mood. Developments in attention, memory and concentration have also been proven.

How does this effect children in school? Well, being inside for nearly all of the day is linked to increased anxiety and depression. Couple this with the allure of computer games and social media at home and you can see how vital it is to offer children as many opportunities to be outdoors during the school day as possible.

Spending time outdoors boosts Vitamin D levels (an important hormone that helps to protect against a selection of diseases such as osteoporosis, depression, heart attacks and stroke). It is presented in research that many of us do not get an adequate amount of this important vitamin, so more time outside is essential to help tackle this deficiency.

With the longest break in the school day being the lunch break, a great solution is alfresco dining. More and more schools are adding value to their outdoor areas, adding outdoor dining spaces, with canopies, shade sails, umbrellas and even enclosed outdoor dining rooms. With growing pupil numbers, this is a solution to the increased pressure that existing dining rooms come under as schools grow.

In collaboration with a leading architect we built two straight polycarbonate roof canopies at Mount Pleasant Primary School, Lockwood, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. The job involved two Motiva™ Linear bespoke canopies and included for our Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes in matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.

South Hunsley Primary School Add Two Straight Roof Shelters to Campus

Working for a leading builder our team designed two straight polycarbonate roof canopies for South Hunsley Primary School, Melton, North Ferriby, East Riding of Yorkshire. The job involved the supply and installation of one Motiva™ monopitch straight coloured polycarbonate roof canopy measuring 6549mm X 4000mm and one bespoke Motiva™ Entro cantilever straight roof canopy measuring 2900mm X 1500mm both with Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes in matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.

Ferney Lee Primary School Add Polycarbonate Roof Shelter

In collaboration with our building contractor client we designed system 60 roofing in Ferney Lee Primary School, Todmorden, West Yorkshire. The full contract involved the supply and installation of System 60 straight roof polycarbonate roofing including for all roofing bars and edge trims measuring 14400mm x 3400mm with Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes in matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.

Boulevard Academy Create Outdoor Sheltered Space with School Canopy

Working for a leading builder our team produced a straight polycarbonate roof canopy for Boulevard Academy, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire. The contract included the supply and installation of one Motiva™ monopitch straight roof canopy measuring 55000mm X 4000mm with Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes in matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.

Lilleker Bros Ltd Add Canopy with Post Protection Pads

In combination with our building contractor client A&S constructed a canopy in Lilleker Bros Ltd Waleswood, Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The contract included six pink post protection pads.

Curved Roof Entrance Canopy Designed for Hunslet Moor Primary School

Working for our building contractor client our team erected an entrance canopy for Hunslet Moor Primary School, Hunslet, Leeds, West Yorkshire. The full contract involved one Motiva™ Entro curved roof canopy measuring 2100mm X 2000mm.

Springfield Primary School Add Curved Roof Canopy to Campus

In collaboration with our building contractor client our team erected a duo canopy at Springfield Primary School, Broomspring Lane, Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Full details are: one Motiva™ Duo duopitch curved roof canopy with glazed side panel measuring 6000mm X 6000mm and included for our Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes which were coated in a matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.

Secure Shelter with Roller Shutters Designed for Cullingworth Village Hall

In combination with the specialist building contractor A&S built a straight polycarbonate roof canopy with roller shutters for Cullingworth Village Hall Cullingworth, Bradford, West Yorkshire. The job involved the supply and installation of one Motiva™ monopitch straight roof canopy measuring 9200mm X 4000mm and included for our Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes in matching Dura-coat™ colour finish with electrically operated roller shutter door(s) to front and side elevations.

Straight Roof School Shelter Fitted at Shipley Primary School

Working with the specialist building contractor A&S built a straight polycarbonate roof canopy at Shipley Primary School, Otley Road, Shipley, West Yorkshire. The contract included the supply and installation of one Motiva™ monopitch straight roof canopy with Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes which were coated in a matching Dura-coat™ colour finish and also electrically operated roller shutter doors to front elevation and glazed panels to side elevations.

Working alongside a leading builder our team produced a straight polycarbonate roof canopy at Ripon Moorside School, Ripon, North Yorkshire. The full contract involved the supply and installation of one Motiva™ monopitch straight roof canopy measuring 17000mm X 2280mm and included for our Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes in matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.

In collaboration with our contractor client our team produced a straight polycarbonate roof canopy and a shade sail structure at The Riverside School, Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire. The contract included the supply and installation of one Motiva™ monopitch straight roof canopy measuring 6800mm X 3600mm and one Motiva™ monopitch straight roof canopy measuring 8000mm X 3000mm both included for our Alu-Tuff™ aluminium box profile guttering and downpipes in matching Dura-coat™ colour finish.
