The canopies are a true asset to the Roseland Academy. The way they reflect the institution’s colours has made the site feel brighter and more unified and they have revitalised the facilities outdoors.

The Roseland Academy in Tregony wanted a pair of canopies to address its need for outdoor dining space. They thought that using the designs to reflect the academy’s colours would be fun and would also make the theming inside the buildings and outside in the grounds look more cohesive. Shelters of different sizes were required to suit their varied needs and areas on-site, and it was important that the models could act as excellent shields in all kinds of weather. A&S Landscape came highly recommended by another local school and the Roseland Academy preferred our specification and product aesthetics over other options – so they chose to approach us about our shelters.
It’s essential that our clients make their decisions in a comfortable space with all the know-how they require, so we talked through our products with the Roseland Academy. This then led them to select two from our range. The first was a Motiva Linear™, which has a certain flexibility of use that really appeals to our customers, and it suits a dining canopy well. We built it to specifications of 8000mm X 4000mm to fit perfectly into the available space. Secondly, we installed one of our Motiva Duo™ shelters with larger measurements of 16000mm X 8000mm to provide additional room for students to enjoy eating and socialising outside, even in the rain. Thanks to its symmetric curved roof, this model brings visual interest to any area. What’s more, we installed the structures with Opal roofs and Ultramarine Blue steelwork to match the academy’s branding.
The canopies are a true asset to the Roseland Academy. The way they reflect the institution’s colours has made the site feel brighter and more unified and they have revitalised the facilities outdoors. This can be a great idea for institutions already looking to make their teaching more versatile. Now, students can take a break under the dining shelters and eat their lunch or catch up with classmates outside, from summer right through to winter. We were thrilled to be recommended to this client and prove ourselves worthy of it.
The Roseland Academy is one of the top-performing secondary schools in the South West and nationally, and it believes that student performance is closely linked to the enjoyment of learning. It is a member of the Roseland Multi Academy Trust alongside five other institutions, which it collaborates with to ensure staff can strive for the best for the children they teach. We enjoyed supplying our canopies to this customer and wish them all the best for the future.
The village of Tregony, where the Roseland Academy is located, is known as the ‘gateway to the Roseland’ – hence this client’s name. Some of its most fascinating features are its unusual clock tower, its 17th century almshouses which include an unusual wooden gallery, and the site of a 12th century Norman castle. It certainly holds plenty of Cornish charm for local people.
Shelters have many practical applications, but they have subtler ways of improving daily life too. Here are a few examples of how they can help make people feel comfortable on-site.
Someone who steps onto grounds where they see a canopy can immediately see that the school is dedicated to improving wellbeing for all. Shelters provide the opportunity to spend time both in new areas and out in the fresh air – which can be beneficial for mental health and can show you see children as more than just learners.
Spaces with colourful or stylish shelters look much more inviting than those of a stereotypical, functional institution. Adding a structure that matches your atmosphere and values while brightening up your outdoor space can make it more visually appealing.
Canopies can help you to help others. An entrance shelter can make visiting your academy a more enjoyable experience when arriving in the rain. Meanwhile, a cycle shelter can make it easier for children or staff to be more environmentally friendly and experience some fun and exercise on their way to school, as it provides somewhere safe to store their bicycles.
