Wilmslow High School say of themselves, we work in “The pursuit of excellence for every student, every day.” They have a beautiful, modern campus in the Cheshire suburbs and they work to improve the setting with an annual schedule of works. This year they wanted to add a shaded area for students. When they approached A&S Landscape we knew that we would have a solution for them.

A&S Landscape works a lot in the education sector and we have been working with schools to transform their outdoor areas for more than 40 years. We knew that our wide range of products would have something just right for Wilmslow High School. We selected the Maxima Shade Sail and created a bespoke design specifically for the space to be covered. The final size was 28000mm x 4768mm/8078mm with 18 uprights. The fabric looks bright in Natural fabric and the posts are White (RAL 9010) steel.
The structure looks very impressive, the size and clean, bright design add a modern, striking feature to the area. Being visible from the road it can also help new visitors identify the area of the school. Everyone is very pleased with the new canopy, parents, teachers, children and visitors alike. It offers are new space for children to learn, relax and socialise. We were delighted to work with Wilmslow High School on such an exciting project and we welcome them to our list of satisfied school customers.
As we know, the school-age population has been increasing. The amount of five to ten year old children in primary schools increased by 446,000 (13%) within 2010 and 2016.
The Department for Education has the mission to create the 420,000 new school places that are needed between 2016 and 2021 and there are a number of ways that this can be accomplished. New schools are being constructed, free schools are being funded and existing schools are being given capital funding to uphold, improve and enlarge facilities. With funds being overstretched, one way that schools are using this capital funding is to make the most of their outside space. Whether to build extra classrooms or to add sheltered spaces which can have no end of different uses.
Some applications of outdoor sheltered areas include:
• Outdoor dining areas
• All-weather sports pitches
• Outdoor classroom
• Outdoor theatre
