What was the project brief?

Ysgol Treferthyr is a newly built school in Criccieth, we were invited to work with the school to plan, manufacture, and install our Exceptional Covered Spaces™ to ensure that the school was turn-key ready for staff and pupils to enjoy. Councillor Beca Brown, Cyngor Gwynedd’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “The old building was dated and no longer fit for purpose, so I share the excitement of the local community about all the modern resources that are in the new school, and the great educational opportunities that will be available to the pupils.”, with the new school set to open for the 2024 academic year, we got to work on our designs.

What was our canopy solution?

We manufactured and installed six of our Motiva Cantilever™ canopies around the school, providing a sheltered space for each year group to enjoy. Additionally, we installed three bespoke Motiva Linear™ canopies, creating a unique and eye-catching entryway for the school. The canopies were all styled with an Anthracite Grey Duracoat™ and a Clear polycarbonate roof, resulting in a simplistic and modern look that is in keeping with the architecture and facilities of the building.

Creating Positive Learning Spaces

When designing school spaces, it’s essential to consider all the elements that enable staff, teachers, and pupils to thrive. Through our conversations with schools, we’ve discovered that covered outdoor spaces play a key role in promoting positive learning environments. Three of the most common ways that our canopies make a meaningful impact are dining canopies – that ease issues with overcrowding, outdoor learning – that broadens students learning opportunities, covered MUGAs – that ensure students can participate in sports throughout the year for a healthy mind and body.
