Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern in Anglesey Adds Multiple Canopies

What was the project brief?

Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern in Bodedern, Wales was searching for a range of outdoor shelters to increase the facilities available in its grounds. The staff wanted a mix of fabric and polycarbonate canopies to create models that suited different areas and met different needs. It was also important that they came in bright colours to make the site more cheerful and usable, even in damp weather. We were delighted when Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern got in touch to ask us to help bring their ideas to life.

What was our shelter solution?

Following discussions about our range of canopies and how each model could benefit them and their students, the team settled on three different products that suited their requirements. The first was a 14000mm X 7000mm Motiva Duo™, with an attractive and efficient, curved Opal polycarbonate roof that was sure to keep out the rain during everything from play to dining. The second was a pair of 4000mm X 4000mm Maxima Umbrella™ shelters that lit up the playground with their waterproof PVC fabric roofs in Midnight Blue and made the area more welcoming to students and visitors alike. The final model was a Motiva Cantilever™ measuring 5000mm X 3000mm which, thanks to its clever design, could offer protection from the elements without uprights that got in the way of current access or architecture. What’s more, all four canopies came with Traffic Red steelwork to make the outdoor space more fun and visually interesting.

What was the result of this set of shelters?

The grounds of Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern have been transformed into somewhere that students can make the most of in any type of weather – whether they want to play games, dine, or socialise outside of the classroom. The varied outdoor shelter models each suit their space well and have made for impressive new facilities, while also working together through their colourful look to lend a lively, positive feel. We found it really rewarding to see such a vibrant range of our canopies in action, offering daily benefits for this friendly school community.

About the client

Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern is an 11-18 secondary school that helps the young people it teaches to develop as bilingual English and Welsh citizens. It offers a broad and challenging curriculum for all ages and its school motto is ‘Hau i Fedi’ (Sow to Reap), which is based on the vision of the institution’s first Headmaster, Mr Carol Hughes. The teaching team’s dedication to their learners shone through when we spent time at Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern, and we wish them all the best for the future.

This client is located in Bodedern, one of the many picturesque villages on the Isle of Anglesey. Much of the coastline of this part of Wales is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and its wonderful beaches offer fun and exercise to the whole family. What’s more, Anglesey has miles of scenic walks to enjoy, as well as a myriad of plants and wildlife in its ‘moonscape’ landscapes.

What are cantilever canopies?

Cantilever shelters are incredibly useful models which help customers make the most of their space in personalised ways. They create effective covered areas thanks to their curved or straight roof designs, and they are supported by uprights on one side with anchoring to an existing building on the other. This means they open up large amounts of space that can be used for a whole host of purposes, and multiple uprights don’t get in the way of entrances or playtime at nurseries or primary schools.
