Sheltered Play Space at St. Gilbert’s RC Primary School

The patron saint of St. Gilbert's RC Primary School (St. Gilbert, believe it or not) was a man who never settled for the easy option. It is that spirit that runs through the beating heart of St. Gilbert's, enthusing their staff and children alike with the energy to get things done. Regarding themselves as a transformational place of learning, St. Gilbert's make sure that everything they do contributes to the experience and growth of their students.

So when they were looking to create a more secure outdoor play area for their children, one that would be accessible all year round, they came to A&S Landscape for a solution.

Working with St. Gilbert’s we installed a Motiva Linear canopy at 8000mm x 3600mm in a smart green steelwork (RAL 6005) with clear roofing and Alu-Tuff™ box profile guttering to match in Dura-Coat™ finish.

The complete shelter offers a classroom extension that means children can play outdoors whatever the weather but the inclusion of roller shutter doors has offered St. Gilbert’s RC Primary School a class high level of security, meaning they can safely store outdoor play equipment without the fear of it going missing.

The Benefits Of Outdoor Learning on Students and Teachers

Being outside instead of inside a building, or mundane classroom, all day encourages a healthy relationship with nature and helps children to grow up with an awareness for living things. Teaching children about nature is not necessarily something that is included as part of a curriculum, but it is part of life and an important part of their development as a human being.
